Senator Schumer is proposing legislation that would require Medicare payments to pharmacies within 14 days of filing for electronic prescription drug claims. Senator Chuck Schumer is visiting Rochester on Monday in hopes of helping locally owned pharmacies at risk of potentially going out of business. A delay in Medicare Part D payments is what is threatening small owned pharmacies in Henrietta. She says her pharmacy is paid for medications, but she is not paid until 30 to 60 days after having processed the medication and given it out to her customers. She says, "however we have to pay our wholesaler for the medication every two weeks, so that puts us at a lag for payment, we have to take out a line of credit in order to pay our wholesaler so the person get their medication, and then we don't see the money for it until a month or two later."
