Devon Primary Care Trust has developed a sexual health strategy that will see young people educated more on sex and relationships and improved access to condoms. The rate of sexually-transmitted infections is continuing to rise, with risk-taking behaviour being blamed.
Also in the strategy, endorsed by the PCT board, is the plan to offer a genitourinary appointment within 48 hours, which is also a national target set by the Department of Health.
Dr Virginia Pearson, director of public health at the PCT, said: "Sexual health is a top priority for Devon Primary Care Trust.
"Sexually transmitted infections are increasing and we have already invested in additional staff in order to improve access to genitourinary medicine services locally. The strategies for young people and adults published now set out our priorities." http://www.thisisexeter.co.uk |
