The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) announced a new database to assist Women's Service Line Leaders with generating the evidence needed to drive clinical, staffing and financial decisions.

The AWHONN EDGE™, which stands for "Extract Data & Generate Evidence", is currently in the beta testing phase with 20 hospitals nationwide, and is expected to launch in early 2009. The AWHONN EDGE™ technology automatically extracts data directly from a patient's electronic medical record into the database. It will also allow institutions to trend their own data, as well as compare their data to "like" hospitals and to all participating hospitals. The database is online, allowing leaders to access reports at any time.

Erectile dysfunction could be an indicator of testosterone deficiency and the metabolic syndrome, a set of factors that may indicate an increased risk of heart and vascular disease and type 2 diabetes, a new international study shows.
 "Erectile dysfunction is a portal into men's health," the study's senior author, Dr. Aksam Yassin, of the Clinic for Urology and Andrology of the Segeberger Clinics in Norderstedt, Germany, wrote in a prepared statement.

The new association, expected to be headed initially by Barbados Family Planning Association (BFPA) chief George Griffith, will be an educational forum and a motivating force.

NEW YORK (AP) _ It seems everything's bigger in Texas — even the greenhouse gas emissions.
For its July/August issue, Men's Health magazine compiled a list of the "greenest drivers" in America and those who are "fossil fools." Four Texas cities made the bottom 10 with failing scores, including Arlington, at No. 100.
